​Suffragettes on Stage is a solo performance that brings to life the often disregarded and untold stories of the Actresses Franchise League (AFL), the first union for the actress founded by the Suffragette Movement. The performance invites you into the context of an AFL meeting, to hear the stories of the women whose work within the league generated the first feminist political theatre. The performance invites you to watch extracts from suffragette plays within a miniature toy theatre to witness the surge of female playwriting, the creation of strong female characters that foregrounds the female actresses fight for equality. A performance that sheds a light on the AFL creation of a theatrical space that for women that set the foundations for women working within the theatrical industry today.
